Every year the fantasy football world is affected by offseason moves. In 2025 we have already seen a few relevant players move teams and some stay put. Here are 5 fantasy storylines from the first weeks of free agency.
Fantasy Storylines:
- Bengals Offense- The Bengals have an important offseason ahead of them, as they missed out on the playoffs last year. Thankfully in week one of free agency they gave fantasy players a boost of confidence in their offense by signing both Higgins and Chase to long term deals. Making Higgins and Chase top paid wideouts (9 and 1 respectively) not only solidifies Burrow as fantasy relevant but also means that fixing the defense with a big name FA is out of the question. This bodes well for a lot of high scoring games throughout next year likely to make fantasy players very happy.
- Cowboys RB Room- Well s***, another year another RB room looking to be a committee. With Dallas signing Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders to fill their need at the RB position it’s bound to be a fantasy nightmare. You can make a case for both, Williams was a promising prospect out of college and Sanders had success during his time in Philly. However, it is probably best to view the situation realistically. Sanders and Williams are serviceable running backs who will both get opportunities in this offense making neither one fantasy relevant. Oh and did I mention that a first year head coach will be calling the plays.
- Najee Harris- I don’t think Najee could have landed in a better spot than with the Chargers. He left a role in Pittsburgh that saw him as less of a workhorse and more of a bruiser/short yardage guy and Warren as the passing down back. Now, in LAC you should expect Najee to receive everything. In his rookie year he proved that he could catch the ball, leading all RBs in receptions. I don’t necessarily expect those numbers to repeat. However, I am expecting more receptions than in recent times. With a full rushing workload and some receiving work sprinkled in, Najee is in line for a strong fantasy performance in 2025.
- Brock Bowers- This storyline is rather straightforward. The Raiders made the decision to trade for Geno Smith to be their QB for 2025. Though long term this may not be ideal for most Raiders fans, it does fix an immediate problem at a position of need. Bowers is coming off of a historic rookie season. The main concern surrounding him was “who will his quarterback be next year?”.Regardless of who it was, I expected Bowers to PPR his way to relevance again. But, getting Geno Smith instead of a rookie, or another year of Aiden O’Connell, is a massive win for anyone hoping to see a year two leap. With Smith there I have no problem taking Bowers at the back of Round 1 in fantasy drafts. With what he was able to do last year under abysmal QB play we should without a doubt see a TE1 overall level performance from Bowers next year.
- Seahawks Offense- Out with the old, in with the “new”. Seattle replaced Geno Smith with Sam Darnald and DK Metcalf with Cooper Kupp. Though I don’t see this as an overall upgrade for the team, it also isn’t a downgrade. They obtained a 2nd and 3rd round draft pick plus saved some money. Fantasy wise this is a plus for JSN and Kenneth Walker. Klint Kubiak is planning to conduct a run-first offense around Walker and what will hopefully be a young talented Oline. To me, Walker will be a steal in most drafts if he’s available anywhere in the 2nd round or beyond. For JSN, this offseason has solidified him as the WR1 on the team. I expect his production to jump up quite a bit from last year. Despite that, I would be cautious taking JSN too high in drafts come August. Even with a projected jump in workload I still don’t view JSN as a fantasy WR1 (top 12) in a Kubiak lead offense.
